A time capsule was buried here on July 4, 1979, on the two-hundredth anniversary of Jonesboro, Tennessee, 1779–1979, and was to be opened on July 4, 2079. The Town of Jonesboro officials at the time were Mayor Jimmy Neil Smith and Aldermen Tobie Bledsoe, Sam May, Ernest McKinney, and Wayne Taylor. Donations came from Wayne Alexander, Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home, Billy F. Snyder, and Snyder’s, Inc.
