Built in the 1880's as a Methodist meeting house at Hobgood Fork, this church was moved one mile to a permanent site in Hobgood after the village was incorporated in 1891, with the building pulled by mule and logs, often only a few feet per week, to a corner of E.P. Hyman's garden designated for the Methodist church. It remained a Methodist church until the congregation outgrew it in 1955. It was then purchased by Joe Bland, whose father had helped with the original construction. In 2003, the building was purchased by the Hobgood United Methodist Church, donated to the Town of Hobgood, and moved to its current location, where renovations were made possible by many talented and generous people.
