The first log schoolhouse in Iron County was built in November 1851, and classes began on January 12, 1852. Reading, writing, and arithmetic were taught there, with only a few slates and books available as supplies. The building also served the community for town meetings and dances, and it was restored in 1997 under the direction of Parowan Lions President Wesley E. Blake.
