Nature
Muggins Mountain Wilderness is a 7,711-acre protected desert area in southwestern Arizona, about 38 miles east of Yuma in the Muggins Mountains beside Dome Valley and the Gila River. Its sharply rising terrain includes Klothos Temple, the highest peak in the southern range at 1,666 feet, and nearby Muggins Peak at 1,424 feet. The landscape is notably rugged, with Twin Tanks Wash, Muggins Wash, and Morgan Wash cutting into its southwest edge and influencing travel through the area. Muggins Wash provides the main access route from County 7th Street. The area supports hiking, backpacking, climbing, sightseeing, photography, and study of native plants and wildlife.
