Main Street underwent major makeovers in 1916 and 2012 and a minor makeover in 1947. In 1916, new sidewalks, curbs, storm sewers, and water mains were added, two Detroit United Railway tracks were laid over a two-foot concrete foundation, eight inches of concrete was poured from curb to curb, bricks supplied by the Speedway Brick Company and other companies were used for street paving, and new lamp posts and power lines were installed for the Detroit United Interurban cars. In 1947, new sidewalks, curbs, and lamp posts were added, and the street's brick surface was paved over with seven inches of asphalt. In 2012, Main Street received its second major makeover with new storm sewers and twelve-inch water mains on both sides of the street, a new concrete roadbed, sidewalks and curbs, and new traffic signals and lamp posts. Bricks from 1916 removed during this process were used to pave the area surrounding the Bicentennial Sundial.
