Unknown American soldiers who perished in the Battles of Saratoga on September 19 and October 7, 1777, and were buried here in unmarked graves, helped assure the triumph of the War of Independence, create the Republic of the United States of America, and establish liberty throughout the world. They were honored as patriots in 1931, during the bicentennial of George Washington's birth, by the Daughters of the American Revolution of New York State.
