Jewell County’s first bank was erected on this site as the first building on the south side of the park by John Calvin Postlethwaite (1848-1910), whose name is honored by Calvin Township. In grateful remembrance, his grandsons Carl and Ken, who were born in Jewell and were the sons of Robert Clarence and Bertha Easterday Postlethwaite, provided this tribute in 1993.
