Circa 1890, the Ferndale Palace Saloon was the furthest westernly bar in the continental United States. It was dedicated on February 13, 1993 by the Native Sons of the Golden West, with Harley M. Harty serving as Grand President, in memory of Joseph G. Oeschger PGP.
