Shop 48 is a center for innovation where inventive engineers build and test the next generation of Vermeer equipment. Its name honors the company’s humble beginnings as a small job shop started by founder Gary Vermeer in 1948. After the July 2018 tornado, engineering team members who had once worked in separate areas throughout each plant on the mile were moved to various offsite locations to make space for manufacturing, a change that ultimately strengthened the team as it continued to innovate across central Iowa. Shop 48 brings these teams back onsite with an enhanced focus on collaboration in dedicated spaces for designing, testing, and building, continuing a legacy of problem-solving aimed at creating new solutions for customers.
