The current Cherokee County Courthouse is the fourth courthouse built on this site. The first, a brick courthouse constructed in 1849, burned in 1882. A second brick courthouse was built that same year, but it lasted only 13 years before burning in 1895. A third brick courthouse was then immediately built and stood until it was torn down to make way for the current courthouse, built in 1937.
