Bennett's Mill Covered Bridge
Transportation
Bennett's Mill Covered Bridge, west of Greenup, Kentucky, carries Brown Covered Bridge Road over Tygarts Creek and was built in 1855. At 195 feet, it is the longest single-span covered bridge in Kentucky and a rare surviving example of a long wooden covered road span tied to the region's 19th-century transportation network. During the American Civil War, two hidden cannon defended it, adding an unusual military dimension to its transportation history. Its significance as both a local landmark and an important part of Kentucky bridge history was recognized in 1976 with its listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
