Originally called Antioch, the town that developed at the terminus of the Savannah, Americus and Montgomery Railroad, known as the Little SAM, was renamed Louvale in 1886. Antioch Primitive Baptist Church, founded in 1832 in Pleasant Valley, moved to Moccasin Gap in 1842 and to this site in 1851, and the present church was erected about 1885 to replace the original log structure. Marvin Methodist Church was founded in 1830 in Green Hill and moved here in 1900 when the present building was erected. New Hope Baptist Church, constituted in 1860 two miles from here, moved to its present building in 1901.
