In 1884, farmer Elijah Burton donated an acre of land on the north side of Rehoboth Avenue to the trustees of Burton's Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church. Church members worshipped in private homes and a nearby glade of trees until they built a church on this site. The congregation formally incorporated as Mount Pleasant Methodist Episcopal Church in 1899. Over time, Mount Pleasant's original structure has been updated and expanded to include an education wing and other improvements. In 2007, the John Wesley, St. Paul, and Mount Pleasant Churches merged to form Faith United Methodist Church, part of the Lewes Charge of United Methodist Churches.
