Texas honors the valor and devotion of its sons who served at Cheatham Hill, Kennesaw Mountain, and in other engagements of the Atlanta Campaign in 1864. Texas units in the campaign were the 6th Texas Infantry and 15th Texas Cavalry, dismounted, under Capt. Rhoads Fisher; 7th Texas Infantry, under Capt. J.H. Collett; 10th Texas Infantry, under Col. Roger Q. Mills; 17th and 18th Texas Cavalry, dismounted, under Capt. George D. Manion; and 24th and 25th Texas Cavalry, dismounted, under Col. Franklin C. Wilkes, in Brig. Gen. Hiram B. Granbury’s and Gen. J.A. Smith’s Brigade, Cleburne’s Division. Also serving were the 9th Texas Infantry, under Col. William H. Young; 10th Texas Cavalry, dismounted, under Col. C.R. Earp; 14th Texas Cavalry, dismounted, under Col. John L. Camp; and 32nd Texas Cavalry, dismounted, under Col. Julius A. Andrews, in Brig. Gen. Matthew D. Ector’s Brigade, French’s Division. Other Texas units were the 3rd Texas Cavalry, under Lt. Col. Jiles S. Boggess; 6th Texas Cavalry, under Lt. Col. Peter F. Ross; 9th Texas Cavalry, under Col. Dudley W. Jones; and 27th Texas Cavalry, under Col. Edwin R. Hawkins, in Brig. Gen. Lawrence S. Ross’ Brigade, Cantey’s Division; the 8th Texas Cavalry, under Lt. Col. Gustave Cook; and 11th Texas Cavalry, under Col. George R. Reeves, in Col. Thomas Harrison’s Brigade, Humes’ Division; and the Douglas Texas Battery, under Capt. James P. Douglas, in Courtney’s Battalion, Gen. John B. Hood’s Corps. These Texans served the Confederacy.
