The UMSL Commons was dedicated on April 29, 1979, in deep appreciation to the founders of UMSL, the residents of the Normandy area whose generosity and foresight in acquiring the old Bellerive Country Club made the campus possible. The clubhouse that once stood on this site was the University's first home. The dedication also honored the many alumni, students, faculty, staff, and friends of the University who made this special place possible.
