Bernadotte Co-op Creamery

Organized as Riverside in 1895 and renamed Bernadotte in 1944, this cooperative creamery built a new facility in 1936 at a cost of $10,518. It handled whole milk at all times, and patrons delivered cream for more than 40 years. The co-op dissolved in 1959, and the building was sold and used as a holding station until 1974. In 1976, 96 percent of its assets, amounting to $97,612, were liquidated. Its managers were C. Jenson from 1895 to 1910, E. Johnson from 1910 to 1922, B. Wilson from 1922 to 1924, G. Preuss from 1924 to 1945, W. Bruss from 1945 to 1951, C. Johnson from 1951 to 1955, and C. Schulze from 1955 to 1959.
