Founded in 1993 by Magdalena García, El Museo Latino in South Omaha became the Midwest’s first Latino art and history museum and cultural center. After beginning in the Livestock Exchange Building, it moved in 1997 to its current home, a building first used as South Central School and later as the Polish Home before the museum bought it in 1998. The museum links art, history, and community life through exhibitions, lectures, films, workshops, classes, guided visits, and dance. It also serves as a resource center for Latino studies and has presented notable exhibitions and annual cultural celebrations for audiences from schoolchildren to adults.
