Roaring River State Park in Missouri spans 4,294 acres in the Ozarks near Cassville and is centered on the Roaring River, drawing visitors for trout fishing, hiking, and seasonal nature programs. Its creation began when Thomas Mark “Doc” Sayman bought 2,400 acres at Roaring River Spring and gave them to the state, leading to the park’s acquisition in 1923. Much of its present character came from Civilian Conservation Corps and Works Progress Administration work from 1933 to 1939, including rustic stone-and-wood structures later listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The park also preserves traces of earlier settlement, milling, and the Russell homestead.
