Gold seekers developed a mining community at Deadwood in Placer County, California, along the El Dorado Trail, which also served the early communities of Michigan Bluff, El Dorado Canyon, and Last Chance. Some of the earliest members of well-known Placer County families are buried here, and many of their descendants were present on May 17, 1937.
