Thousand Lake Mountain stands in northwestern Wayne County, Utah, in the easternmost part of Fishlake National Forest, just northwest of Capitol Reef National Park and north of Boulder Mountain. Near communities such as Loa, Lyman, Fremont, Bicknell, Teasdale, and Torrey, it serves both agriculture and recreation, including camping, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, and fishing. The Great Western Trail crosses the mountain from north to south, linking it to a broader high-country route. The mountain is especially noted for a long-standing naming mismatch: it is strewn with boulders, while neighboring Boulder Mountain is the one known for its many lakes, likely because the names were switched on a map and the mistake endured.
