Theodore and Johanna Wegmann built their pioneer home at this place in 1893, with one building used as a store and post office. An act of the Minnesota Legislature in 1945 authorized acquisition of the homestead as an addition to Itasca State Park. The site was dedicated in grateful memory of Theodore Wegmann, 1861-1941, and Johanna, his wife, 1865-1944.
