Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee arrived on Stuart's Hill late on the morning of August 29, 1862, to lead his reunited army in the Second Battle of Manassas. By the campaign's conclusion, he emerged victorious and seized the opportunity to lead his men on their first invasion into the North. One-half mile north, the Brawner Farm was the scene of the opening action of the battle on August 28, 1862. Stuart's Hill is now more wooded than it was at the time of the battle.
