McCollum Mound, also known as the Turkey Creek Mound and village, is a prehistoric mound and village site near Chester on South Carolina’s Broad River. Located a short distance downstream from the McCollum Fish Weir, it is one of fewer than two dozen surviving aboriginal mounds recorded in the state. The mound was built in three, and possibly more, stages, showing that it was reused and reshaped over time rather than created in a single effort. The nearby village was probably inhabited in the late prehistoric and early historic periods, making the site an important record of long Indigenous occupation along the river.
