This log frame home is considered the oldest in town. Harmon Husband, the first permanent settler in Somerset, originally occupied the property. A pioneer, farmer, pamphleteer, politician, and surveyor, Husband is remembered as a hero of both the American Revolution and western Pennsylvania's Whiskey Rebellion. He arrived in Somerset County in 1771 with a price on his head, using the assumed name Tuscape Death. He was wanted in North Carolina for an alleged role in starting the Battle of Alamance, a prelude to the American Revolution. In 1782 he acquired the 140-acre Coffee Springs property, which included much of what later became Somerset Borough.
