James Abram Garfield, 20th President of the United States, was born on this land in 1831 and was the last president to be born in a log cabin. In Moreland Hills, Birthplace Park marks where his story begins, at the site of the original Garfield cabin and farm a quarter mile along the path. Garfield held a deep affection for the place where he grew up, writing in his diary, “It is my Greenwich where all the world is exactly in its right place.”
