Originally created in 1924 as one of many typical Boom Time communities in Florida, Interocean City was named for its location halfway between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, but it never succeeded. In 1934, Mr. J.W. Wile gave 5,000 acres and all the buildings to the Household of Faith, a branch of the Methodist Church. The group restored the old hotel and apartment buildings and in 1939 created a school that eventually became a grade school, junior high school, and vocational school for worthy Bible students. At the same time, the community's name was changed to Intercession City in reference to the Biblical connotation of the word intercession. The school later burned, and only its concrete foundation remains.
