Old Point Isabel Lighthouse served as a beacon for the commerce of the Rio Grande. The United States Government erected it in 1852. It was extinguished during the Civil War, discontinued from 1888 to 1895, and permanently discontinued in 1905. The State of Texas erected it in 1936.
