The Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller Mansion was the boyhood home of George Perkins Marsh, father of American ecology, author of Man and Nature, statesman, farmer, and linguist, and the home of Frederick Billings, conservationist, philanthropist, lawyer, railroad builder, and pioneer in reforestation and scientific farm management, and of Laurance S. Rockefeller, friend and benefactor of national parks, conservationist, philanthropist, and entrepreneur; it was dedicated as a Registered National Historic Landmark by Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson on June 11, 1967.
