Founded in 1853 by the Rev. John G. Fee of Bracken County at the invitation of local citizens and Cassius M. Clay, who projected an antislavery community here, this church was open in full equality to all races and was nonsectarian. It played a leading part in the establishment of Berea College in 1855 and in the cause of racial equality in this area.
