"The Old Cemetery"
Faith
The Old Cemetery lies over the hill east of the present church and cemetery near the site of the first log church, built in 1786 on part of the 304 acres of land warranted to Nathan Bane on March 20, 1786, and known as Bane's Fancy. Pioneers chose this secluded spot from the surrounding forest and built the log church, but nothing of that building remains. Over the years, some gravestones remained standing while others leaned or fell flat, and many sunken places indicated additional unmarked graves. More recently, the cemetery has been restored by clearing bushes, vines, locust sprouts, and myrtle, resetting old leaning tombstones with new foundations, and returning the grounds to grass-covered order.
