Wolf Creek Primitive Baptist Church was organized sometime before 1830. Its first meetings were held in a brown blockhouse on the Kaskaskia Trail, whose vestiges can still be seen running from the southeast to the west. These early trails were narrow, suitable for a single horse pulling sleds and for people on foot, and when widened to accommodate wagons they were called a trace. The first church building was a log structure at the top of the hill, and the present church was constructed in 1901. Worship services with singing remain much the same as they were in pioneer times, including shaped-note singing. Primitive, or regular, Baptists' Articles of Faith adhere to strict rules of interpretation from the Bible alone as the only rule of faith and order. Sunday schools, collections, mechanical music, and a paid ministry are not practiced, in keeping with a simplicity regarded as reflecting the beauty Christ gave his church at the very beginning. In 2003, New Hope Primitive Baptist Church was combined with Wolf Creek, and the bell came from the New Hope Church. Some bells were cast with silver dollars thrown into the molten metal to give the finished product a distinctive tone.
