Cedarock Park near Bellemont in North Carolina’s Piedmont combines a 500-acre nature preserve and community park with a historic farm landscape first cultivated by the Garrett family in 1830. Opened as a park in 1975 through the efforts of county parks director Ronald Dean Coleman, it preserves the Cedarock Park Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. Its historic features include the G. W. Garrett House, the Curtis House, the Carney Post Office, the Huffman Mill site, and a rock dam built to divert water for a gristmill. Today the park joins this rural history with trails, campsites, fishing, playgrounds, and other quiet recreation.
