Moffett Field Museum near Mountain View, California, preserves the history of Moffett Federal Airfield and the military and aerospace organizations based there. It grew from efforts launched after the 1992 closure announcement for Naval Air Station Moffett Field, with the Moffett Field Historical Society founding the museum in 1993 and opening it the next year in Hangar One. Financial and facility requirements forced its closure in 2002, but it reopened in 2005 in Building 126, where it remains. Its exhibits focus on the field’s distinctive past, including the USS Macon, electronic warfare, navigation, aviation units, artifacts, a library, and later additions tied to the base’s history.
