During the Battle of White Plains in the American Revolutionary War, phases of action unfolded from October 28th through November 1st. On the morning of October 28th, Americans occupied Chatterton’s Hill, British forces approached from the south, American pickets retreated, Hessians under Rahl seized the hill, and British forces bombarded Chatterton’s Hill. By midday, British and Hessians crossed the Bronx River, Hessians outflanked the Americans, British dragoon cavalry attacked, and the Americans retreated from Chatterton’s Hill. From October 29th to 31st, heavy rain delayed a British attack, British forces bombarded the Americans, and Washington retired to North Castle. On November 1st, British forces attacked the center of the lines and bombarded the American left flank and right flank.
