Bear's Mill was built in 1849 after Gabriel Baer moved from Pennsylvania in 1847 and got the mill operational by 1849. It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1975 and is one of the few operating water-powered gristmills in Ohio today. Grain is still ground into flours and meals using French buhr stones powered by water from Greenville Creek. The mill is surrounded by 35 acres of creekside woodlands, with public paddling access to Greenville Creek for canoe and kayak enthusiasts. A 9-foot metal bear sculpture named Gabriel, or Gabe, honors the mill's founder, whose German surname Baer often became Americanized to Bear.
