The Ekalaka Hills are a small mountain range east and south of Ekalaka in southeastern Montana, rising to about 3,720 feet near the Montana–South Dakota border. They belong to a distinct cluster of isolated, pine-covered uplands that also includes the Long Pines and the East and West Short Pine Hills in South Dakota. Together these highlands stand apart from the surrounding plains as a connected regional landscape rather than one continuous mountain system. The area was once designated the Ekalaka National Forest, but after consolidation into what is now Custer Gallatin National Forest, it became known as the Ekalaka Hills land unit within the Sioux Ranger District.
