Bryant Station was a pioneer village of Milam County, established as an Indian trading post by Major Benjamin F. Bryant, a frontiersman who had commanded a company in the Battle of San Jacinto. In 1842, Sam Houston, President of the Republic of Texas, appointed Bryant as an Indian agent. The community stood at a Little River crossing on trail and stage routes and had a U.S. post office from 1848 to 1874. Major Bryant’s home and trading post stood six miles southeast of this site.
