Rural Mount

Built around 1799 of native limestone rock by Alexander Outlaw for his son-in-law Joseph Hamilton and his wife Penelope, Rural Mount was the home of original settlers in Bend of the Chucky in 1783. Hamilton served for many years as court clerk of Jefferson County and was a trustee of Washington College and Greeneville College, now Tusculum College.
