The Joel Allen House, located one-quarter mile east, was built about 1857 by Joel Allen, a Baptist minister who organized and served many churches in the Pee Dee area from 1838 to 1884. He also represented Marion County in the S.C. General Assembly from 1870 to 1872. His son, W.B. Allen, added a second story to the one-and-a-half-story dwelling about 1891, and the present kitchen was built about 1940 by J.J. Allen.
