Columbia is described as the world's grandest carousel, rising as high as a ten-story building and honoring American craftsmanship in every inch of its monumental design. On its two turntables, 106 historic horses, animals, and chariots revolve, with each figure borrowed from museums, private collections, and antique carousels and then duplicated for Columbia. Rare Dentzel horses with saddles covered in carved flowers stand on the first level, while colorful C. W. Parker horses with billowed manes and jewel-encrusted bodies prance above. The Silver Anniversary Horse on the lower turntable is one of the world's rarest figures, while the original stands on display at the Circus Hall of Fame in Sarasota, Florida. Columbia's elegant facade was modeled by Henry Greutert and Chris Mueller, California sculptors who embellished it through their love of the fading art of architectural sculpture, and the sixteen original oil paintings on its cresting were created by George Gibson, one of America's foremost artists. Conceived and designed by Randall Duell and Associates as the first major new carousel in the world since the late 1920's, Columbia reflects the artistry and dedication of hundreds of workers.
