Jenkins Funeral
History
5
In the 1700's, a log block house stood here. The present structure was built in 1816 and became known as Chamberlain's Tavern. For years it was the center of town and a frequent gathering place for local militia. From 1937 to 1940, it was listed in the telephone directory as a tourist home run by the Edwards family. The residence passed from the Edwards' daughter to daughter until Ralph Jenkins purchased it in 1963, and it has served as a funeral home and private residence ever since. A large spruce tree on the south side of the house was the first Colebrook Community Christmas Tree, and a tree at the front of the building still holds that honor today.
