Louisville WaterWorks Museum occupies the west wing of Pumping Station No. 1 in Louisville Water Tower Park, part of the city’s original water works complex overlooking the Ohio River. Built between 1858 and 1860 as part of Louisville’s early municipal water system, the site was recognized as a National Historic Landmark in 1971 for its importance in the history of public water supply. After a major restoration beginning in 2013, the museum opened in 2014 with its pre-Civil War interior revived and a 1900s cast-iron spiral staircase preserved. Its collections and exhibits explore Louisville Water, clean drinking water technology, and the development of urban water infrastructure.
