Hulburt Creek Garden Beds, near Delton, Wisconsin, preserves about two hundred acres of ridged fields created and used by pre-Columbian Native Americans during the Late Woodland period around 1000 A.D. Considered the oldest surviving garden beds in the Upper Midwest, the site offers rare physical evidence of early regional agriculture. The ridges were likely used to grow native crops including corn, beans, squash, and pumpkins. Its significance was recognized with listing on the National Register of Historic Places on August 8, 1991, and its long-term preservation was strengthened in 2008 when landowner Bill Pierce donated it to the Sauk County Historical Society.
