The Hensley Salt Lake Cutoff followed the bluff closely, intersected Gentile Street, and from there continued along the route designated as the Old Bluff Road through lower Syracuse and Westpoint in a northwesterly direction until reaching Muskrat Spring in East Hooper. John F. Stoddard, a herdsman who worked for Captain Hooper, recalled often looking east and seeing covered wagons making their way along the bluff, hoping to camp that night at Muskrat Spring.
