Originally owned by Judge Gauthe Emil (GE) Qvale, this log cabin was part of the family estate on Eagle Lake. It was built as a children's playhouse and later converted to a guest house. Qvale, born in Norway in 1860, immigrated to America in 1878 with his mother and siblings after the sudden death of his father. At 18, he worked a number of jobs until he met his future mentor, Willmar attorney John Arctander. Admitted to the bar in 1882, he went on to a law career that spanned nearly 50 years, serving as a probate judge, county attorney, and district judge before retiring in 1946. Known for a photographic memory, he was widely consulted on business and law. In 1899, he married Johanna Jorgensen and they had two children. Their daughter Florence gave the cabin to the Kandiyohi County Historical Society in 1970.
