About 250 yards down the river on the right side stands a wooden ferry built by Forrest Cramer of Pinedale, Wyoming, in 1997 for the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail. It was used on July 6, 1997, to transport several wagons across the river and stands at the exact location where an earlier ferry operated more than 100 years before. Donated to Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge, the log-and-plank ferry is a very accurate reproduction that evokes the passage of emigrants who prepared either to ferry or ford the Green River after 1000 miles and months on the trail, with more rough travel still ahead. Among those connected to this crossing was Joseph Oborn, who died on October 30, 1856, after crossing the Green River with the Willie Handcart Company, and whose grave lies about seven miles downstream.
