The Evergreen Point Floating Bridge carries Washington State Route 520 across Lake Washington between Seattle and its eastern suburbs. Opened in 2016 to replace a 1963 span, it is the world’s longest and widest floating bridge, with a 7,710-foot floating span. The new crossing was built after decades of traffic growth and concerns about the older bridge’s lack of shoulders, outdated earthquake design, and vulnerability to wind and storm vibrations. Designed with six traffic lanes, high-occupancy vehicle lanes, transit capacity, a pedestrian and bicycle trail, and future light rail compatibility, it stands as a major engineering work and a central link in the continuing SR 520 corridor project.
