This location has long been an important river crossing. Buffalo herds used it for centuries. The Assiniboine called it Crow Ford because the Crow used it during their raiding campaign. Ferries operated here from 1895 to 1920. Winter was especially dangerous because ice was the only way to cross until the bridge was built. Officially dedicated in 1930 and popularly known as the Lewis and Clark Bridge and the Wolf Point Bridge, the structure was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997 as the last example of a riveted Pennsylvania through truss bridge in Montana.
