The Corpus Christi Museum of Science and History, established in 1957 near the Harbor Bridge and waterfront in Corpus Christi, Texas, brings together science and regional history in a setting shaped by the city’s maritime environment. Its more than 40,000 square feet of galleries include material from the wreck of the Spanish ship San Estaban. Among its most notable artifacts is the world’s oldest mariner’s astrolabe with a confirmed date, from 1554, linking the Texas coast to the early history of Spanish seafaring and exploration. A major addition opened in May 1990 to house the Shipwreck! exhibition, strengthening its role in connecting waterfront history and coastal archaeology.
