Ezra Cornell lived and died on this site. He was a member of the Assembly, a senator, a philanthropist, and a benefactor of the City of Ithaca, whose citizens raised this token in grateful appreciation. It was erected by the DeWitt Historical Society of Tompkins County on the anniversary of his birthday, January 11, 1909.
